Saturday Open Studios
Saturday Open Studios presents “Textile Talismans: Printed Pockets,” a hands-on activity inspired by the ways pockets and pouches carry cherished objects across countries and generations. Participants will make small fabric pouches decorated with diasporic Jewish textile motifs from the era of Rembrandt, considering what sentimental or sacred items they might keep close during a journey.
The activity is led by Boston-born textile and sculpture artist Charlie Dov Schön, whose interdisciplinary practice explores textiles, poetry, ritual, material culture, grief, and the relationship between spiritual objects and scientific inquiry. Schön lives and works in Somerville, and her work has been presented at Boston City Hall, Brandeis University’s Kniznick Gallery, Tufts University Art Galleries, the Wellin Museum of Art, and New York Textile Month.
