Charlestown Book Group: The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters
The Charlestown Book Group meets to discuss Amanda Peters’s novel *The Berry Pickers*. Readers are invited to gather with neighbors, share their perspectives, and explore the book’s themes and story. Copies are available to borrow from the Charlestown Branch.
The novel follows a Mi’kmaq family from Nova Scotia who travels to Maine in the summer of 1962 to pick blueberries. Their four-year-old daughter, Ruthie, disappears from the edge of a berry field, witnessed only by her six-year-old brother, Joe. Years later, Norma grows up as the only child of a prosperous but troubled family, experiencing dreams and visions that gradually seem connected to a secret her parents have concealed. As an adult, she spends decades pursuing the truth about her identity and her family’s past.
