Textile Talismans: Printed Pockets
Textile Talismans: Printed Pockets is a hands-on Saturday Open Studio led by textile and sculpture artist Charlie Dov Schön. Participants will create fabric pouches decorated with diasporic Jewish textile motifs from the age of Rembrandt, reflecting on how pockets and small purses carry cherished, sacred, or sentimental objects across countries and generations.
Schön’s interdisciplinary practice brings together textiles, poetics, ritual, material-culture studies, and grief. Her work explores spiritual objects as collectors of data and scientific practice as a form of prayer. She has exhibited at Boston City Hall, Brandeis’ Kniznick Gallery, Tufts University Art Galleries, the Wellin Museum of Art, and New York Textile Month, and has held residencies at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Open AIR Montana, and Art Farm Nebraska.
