Spyro Gyra

Spyro Gyra performs live at City Winery Boston as part of the band’s continuing 50th-anniversary celebration. Led by Jay Beckenstein, the jazz group traces its history to informal jam sessions organized by Beckenstein and fellow Buffalo, New York, musicians on their shared night off. What began as a modest gathering called “Tuesday Night – Jazz Jam,” with admission originally set at 25 cents, developed into a major jazz act.

Over five decades, Spyro Gyra has released more than 30 albums, earned gold and platinum records, and played over 10,000 concerts across six continents. The band’s sustained musical standards have kept it among jazz’s leading live attractions.
