Textile Talismans: Printed Pockets

Sat, Dec 5, 2026at 1:00 PM
25 Evans Way, Boston, MA
Free
Featuring: Charlie Dov Schön

Textile Talismans: Printed Pockets is a hands-on Saturday Open Studio led by textile and sculpture artist Charlie Dov Schön. Participants will make fabric pouches decorated with diasporic Jewish textile motifs dating to the age of Rembrandt, considering how pockets and small bags carry cherished memories, sacred objects, and personal histories across countries and generations.

The workshop asks participants to reflect on which sentimental items they would keep close during a journey. Schön’s interdisciplinary practice explores textiles, poetry, ritual, material culture, grief, spiritual objects, and the relationship between data collection and prayer. Her work has appeared at Boston City Hall, Brandeis Kniznick Gallery, Tufts University Art Galleries, the Wellin Museum of Art, and New York Textile Month. She has held residencies at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Open AIR Montana, and Art Farm Nebraska.
