Boulez at 100
Boulez at 100 commemorates Pierre Boulez’s centenary through a concert combining performance, technology, and conversation. Acclaimed pianists Gloria Cheng and Ralph van Raat present Boulez’s music alongside works by composers whose styles intersect with, anticipate, or challenge his modernist and experimental ideas. The event is hosted by Tod Machover, Faculty Director of the MIT Media Lab.
The program explores Boulez’s artistic dialogue with John Cage, Morton Feldman, Frank Zappa, Magnus Lindberg, and Olivier Messiaen, including selections from the rarely performed *Structures*, Books I and II. Together, the works examine Boulez’s influence across generations, genres, and musical traditions.
