A Streetcar Named Desire

Tennessee Williams’s Pulitzer Prize-winning drama becomes a lyrical, emotionally exposed opera set to André Previn’s luminous score. In the oppressive heat of a New Orleans summer, Blanche DuBois seeks refuge with her sister Stella and Stella’s husband, Stanley, after leaving her Mississippi hometown. Blanche’s idealized vision of the past collides with Stanley’s domineering realism, unleashing a volatile story of desire, cruelty, illusion, fear of change, and destruction.

Daniela Candillari returns to Boston Lyric Opera after conducting the company’s 2022 award-winning cinematic opera *Svadba*. She joins singer, stage director, and arts leader Patricia Racette to lead the production. Brittany Renee, Angela Yam, Thomas Glass, and Brenton Ryan headline the cast.
