Jimmy Webb

Jimmy Webb comes to City Winery Boston for a live performance celebrating his extraordinary career as a songwriter and recording artist. Known as “America’s Songwriter,” Webb has written enduring songs including “MacArthur Park,” “Wichita Lineman,” and “Worst That Could Happen,” while his compositions have been interpreted by artists across pop, country, blues, jazz, disco, rap, and EDM.

During the performance, Webb shares the stories behind his best-known songs and the journey that took him from a preacher’s son in a small Oklahoma farm town to a leading figure in popular music. The program reaches back to his first songwriting work at Motown and reflects both the achievements and challenges of his career. His honors include a 1968 Grammy sweep in which “Up, Up and Away” won Song of the Year over his own “By the Time I Get to Phoenix.” Webb has continued exploring new artistic territory, including work on a classical nocturne. He is also the author of *Tunesmith: The Art of Songwriting* and the memoir *The Cake and the Rain*.
