Gallery Talk: Taking the Stage—Ancient Greek Performers and Their Masks
Gallery Talk: Taking the Stage—Ancient Greek Performers and Their Masks explores what it may have been like for actors in ancient Greece to wear and perform with theatrical masks. Through ancient Mediterranean artworks, Sarah Gonzalez will examine the relationship between performer and mask, including funerary monuments honoring deceased actors, symposium eye cups, and other objects.
The talk will also consider a marble theater mask from the third century CE, made in western Asia Minor and held by the Harvard Art Museums/Arthur M. Sackler Museum.
