Curated Cuisine: The joy of cookies with James Beard Award-winning chef Joanne Chang

Tue, Dec 1, 2026at 6:30 PM
890 Commonwealth Ave, Boston, MA 02215
$10-$30
Featuring: Joanne Chang, Paige Sutherland

James Beard Award-winning baker Joanne Chang, co-owner of Flour bakery and author of *The Joy of Cookies: New Classics and Old Favorites to Share*, returns to her earliest baking passion for an evening devoted to cookies. In conversation with *On Point* senior producer Paige Sutherland, Chang will discuss recipes from her book, practical advice for home bakers, and the stories behind the cookies she has made throughout her life.

The event is part of Curated Cuisine, WBUR’s monthly series about the people and ideas shaping the food world. Guests will receive a post-show bite inspired by the conversation, with cookies from Chang’s book. Copies of the cookbook will be available for purchase from Brookline Booksmith, and Chang will sign books after the discussion.

Chang’s baking story began with the chocolate chip cookie she made with her mother as a child. She later baked for fellow Harvard students and became known as the “cookie girl,” before leaving management consulting to pursue baking professionally. Her cookbook combines foundational guidance—including answers to common baking questions—with recipes ranging from classic and adventurous cookies to bars, sandwich cookies, iced creations, piped cookies, and savory varieties, alongside personal stories about the recipes and the people connected to them.
