Delight of the Muses
BMOP presents *Delight of the Muses*, a concert exploring inspiration, memory, language, and musical history through four eclectic works. The program opens with the world premiere of Anthony De Ritis’ *Jiggedy Jingle Jaunty Jaunty*, an orchestral work with electronics that draws on the artistic legacies of James Joyce and Luciano Berio.
Soprano Julia Bullock joins the Boston Modern Orchestra Project for Samuel Barber’s *Knoxville: Summer of 1915*, based on James Agee’s recollection of a summer evening, and for two arias from Matthew Aucoin’s *No One’s Rose*, which set poems by Paul Celan and examine memory, language, and loss. Charles Wuorinen’s *Delight of the Muses* closes the evening with a Mozart homage assembled from material in *Don Giovanni*. The ballet moves between the outrageous, the sentimental, and the exuberant.
