AJ and the Groove Trio

AJ and the Groove Trio brings together vocalist Anita “AJ” Wood, guitarist Karl Helmer, and bassist Rose Villani for a fresh take on jazz standards. The trio reshapes familiar American Songbook material with unexpected twists, drawing on the musicians’ varied backgrounds and shared enthusiasm for jazz.

Wood’s musical experience includes musical theatre and a cappella singing, as well as serving as lead vocalist for the Chelmsford Jazz Ensemble since June 2022. Her involvement in the local jazz jam scene led to connections with fellow musicians, including her longtime “pocket drummer,” that helped inspire the formation of the group.
