The Jorge Perez-Albela Trio w/ Kenny Werner and John Lockwood
Peruvian-born drummer, percussionist, and composer Jorge Pérez-Albela leads an evening of improvisational music with two acclaimed Boston-area jazz masters: pianist Kenny Werner and bassist John Lockwood. The trio brings together jazz, global rhythmic traditions, and spontaneous interplay in an intimate performance at The Lilypad.
Werner is a renowned pianist and composer whose work spans more than four decades. He is the author of *Effortless Mastery, Liberating the Master Musician Within*, a widely influential book about developing a spontaneous, confident, and expressive artistic voice. His composition *No Beginning No End*, which earned him a 2010 Guggenheim Fellowship, explores loss, death, transition, and spiritual continuity through a large ensemble featuring more than 70 musicians, including Joe Lovano, Judy Silvano, a wind ensemble, choir, and string quartet. Werner began performing as a child, studied classical piano at the Manhattan School of Music, attended Berklee, and later studied in Brazil with João Assis Brasil.
Lockwood, originally from Cape Town, South Africa, studied at Berklee and has taught double bass, jazz, and improvisation at the New England Conservatory and Berklee. His extensive performance history includes work with Joe Henderson, Gary Burton, Nick Brignola, The Fringe, Freddie Hubbard, the Mel Lewis Big Band, Pat Metheny, Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Shaw, Toots Thielemans, Stan Getz, Art Farmer, Benny Carter, and Joe Maneri, as well as appearances with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Boston Pops. His discography includes more than 100 albums.
