the olllam
The olllam brings together Irish traditional music and Detroit’s post-rock and psychedelic sensibilities in richly layered, genre-defying instrumental music. The collective is known for intricate rhythms, hypnotic recurring melodies, and virtuosic performances built around uilleann pipes, whistles, guitar, keyboards, bass, and drums.
The group originated with Belfast uilleann piper and whistle player John McSherry, American protégé Tyler Duncan, and drummer Michael Shimmin. Its self-titled 2012 debut became a cult favorite and won the Indie Acoustic Music Award for Best Instrumental Album. The band’s 2022 follow-up, *elllegy*, earned the group the RTÉ Radio Best Group honor at that year’s Folk Awards. Recent touring personnel include guitarist Seán O’Meara, keyboardist and Detroit producer Joe Hettinga, and Scottish whistle player and piper Ross Ainslie. The collective has also worked with Vulfpeck musicians Theo Katzman and Woody Goss and collaborated with Zedd on his 2024 album *Telos*. Roni Kaspi is also listed on the event page.
