The Scout
The Scout is Paula Andrea González-Nasser’s contemplative feature debut about Sofia, a location scout working on a television pilot in New York City. As she searches the city’s neighborhoods for apartments, businesses, and exteriors to use as filming locations, Sofia enters the private spaces of strangers and briefly observes their lives. Over the course of one day, these encounters expose curiosity, vulnerability, and quiet tension, eventually taking an unexpectedly personal turn.
Drawing on González-Nasser’s own experience as a location scout, the film explores urban disconnection and the emotional costs of being a young creative. The screening is part of the film’s premiere run and is presented alongside the Brattle’s “Location Location Location: ’80s NYC” repertory series.
