William Basinski: The Garden of Brokenness
William Basinski presents the American premiere of *The Garden of Brokenness* as part of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Creation Festival. This rare live realization marks the 20th anniversary of the work’s recorded release and follows its world premiere at the Venice Biennale.
Originally conceived from piano tape loops Basinski recorded in 1979, the piece reflects on humanity’s separation from the divine, the memory of a lost garden, and the hope of restoration. Basinski’s electronics and meditative sound world will be joined by piano, percussion, and immersive lighting and spatial design, transforming Arrow Street Arts into an enveloping environment of decay, memory, quiet renewal, and transcendence.
