The Gospel Connection

The Gospel Connection is a live musical experience led by Suzanne and an exceptional ensemble of singers and musicians. The program explores traditional spirituals and historic gospel music, along with the connections between those traditions and contemporary artists.

The performance reflects on gospel and spiritual music’s role in the Civil Rights movement, including its connection to Martin Luther King Jr.’s March on Washington, the Freedom Riders’ work, and Fannie Lou Hamer’s voting-rights activism. Influences include Aretha Franklin, B.B. King, Paul Simon, Ruthie Foster, Sam Cooke, Mike Farris, Levon Helm, and many others. Audiences can expect an uplifting evening designed to inspire singing, dancing, joy, peace, and love.
