First/Hand Fridays: Emergent Grounds—Drawing as Public Practice
First/Hand Fridays: Emergent Grounds—Drawing as Public Practice is an in-person seminar at the Harvard Art Museums led by Dani Smith, Emily Rauh Pulitzer Fellow in Contemporary Drawings. The program explores how landscape drawings can express environments as well as states of being, using original works that are not normally viewable in the galleries.
As part of the museum’s monthly First/Hand Fridays series, the program gives Harvard students an opportunity to examine art firsthand, hear a staff member discuss selected objects, and learn more about the museums’ collections and exhibitions. The featured work includes Berthe Morisot’s *Wooded Landscape*, a 19th-century watercolor over traces of black chalk.
