Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish
Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish bring their long-running, shape-shifting sound to Sanctuary Cultural Arts Center. Formed in 1991, the Martha’s Vineyard-based band has traveled as far as South Africa, released three Tone Cool CDs and two self-produced albums, and built its reputation through years of live performance. The group’s current four-piece lineup features Johnny Hoy, Jeremy Berlin, Delanie Pickering, and Kevin Medeiros.
The band has gone through several configurations over the years, including four- and five-piece versions and a period without piano. For more than a decade, it has performed as a four-piece without bass. Hoy, who moved to the Island in 1978 after being inspired by performances from Muddy Waters and Tom Waits, also works as a stone mason, fisherman, antique dealer, and farmer.
