Cast Aside the Clouds

Cast Aside the Clouds is an internationally award-winning love story set in present-day Tehran. Layla, a Bahá’í woman barred from attending university because of her faith, pursues her education through an underground institution. After her father’s bookstore is attacked, she becomes close to Sasan, a Muslim neurologist whose promising future has been shaped by deeply rooted beliefs and prejudices. Their growing relationship challenges his assumptions, and Layla’s arrest forces him to choose between the secure life he planned and the uncertain path demanded by his conscience.

The film examines love across a profound social and religious divide, as well as the resilience that allows hope to survive injustice. The screening is followed by a question-and-answer session with director, co-writer, and producer Mary Darling and co-director Bre Vader.
