Art + Science: Inpainting Techniques
Art + Science: Inpainting Techniques is an informal gallery talk led by staff from the Straus Center for Conservation and Technical Studies. The session offers a look at conservation work through a selection of tools and materials, with an opportunity to examine them up close in the Lightbox Gallery, just outside the Straus Center.
Kate Smith, senior conservator of paintings and head of the paintings lab, will discuss different philosophical approaches to restoring areas of loss in paintings. The program also introduces the Straus Center’s role in fine arts conservation, conservation science, research, training, and the care of approximately 250,000 objects in the Harvard Art Museums collections.
