Author Talk: Laura Zigman — The Author Weekend
Laura Zigman will discuss her latest novel, *The Author Weekend*, as part of the Fall 2026 Author Talk Series presented by the Friends of the South End Library. The evening will feature a lively conversation about the book and its darkly comic take on envy, ambition, aging, and the publishing world.
The novel follows Faye Wader, a bestselling mystery writer hosting her first fan weekend on Great Misery Island. Although her sales have begun to decline, Faye carefully orchestrates a three-day, two-night retreat for devoted readers, complete with artisanal doughnuts and a perimenopausal Mermaid Meditation. Her assistant Jade, Faye’s agent and editor, and her most dedicated fan are among the attendees. The arrival of glamorous rival author Abby Schuss makes the weekend more tense, and the discovery of a dead guest turns the retreat into a murder mystery. Faye must determine how far she will go to protect her career and maintain control of her story.
Zigman is the author of *Small World*, *Separation Anxiety*, *Animal Husbandry*, *Dating Big Bird*, *Her*, and *Piece of Work*. She has also collaborated on nonfiction, including Eddie Izzard’s *New York Times* bestseller *Believe Me*, and has written for *The New York Times* and other publications.
