ASL-Interpreted Spotlight Tour: Child’s Play, with Ricardo Fernandes Garcia ’27
This ASL-interpreted Spotlight Tour, led by Harvard undergraduate Ricardo Fernandes Garcia ’27, examines how artists have used images of innocence to address conflict and war. The tour considers childhood, toys, and imagination through three works in the Harvard Art Museums’ collections: Winslow Homer’s *The Brush Harrow* (1865), George Grosz’s *Nutcracker* (1931), and Joseph Cornell’s *Midnight Carrousel* (1954).
Spotlight Tours are conversational, student-led tours that offer thematic perspectives on selected museum objects. They are open to the public and generally focus on three works over approximately 45 minutes. This program is supported by the Ho Family Student Guide Fund, which trains Harvard students to develop original, research-based tours and build skills in visual analysis, public speaking, critical thinking, and leadership.
