ChromaForm
ChromaForm examines a key transition in mid-20th-century abstraction, as artists moved beyond the emotional intensity associated with Abstract Expressionism and turned toward perception, geometry, and color. The exhibition draws from the Rose Art Museum’s permanent collection, presenting sharply structured works with crisp lines, shaped canvases, and vivid color relationships that ask viewers to consider how meaning can emerge through visual experience itself.
The exhibition includes work by Josef Albers, Richard Anuskiewicz, Ralph Coburn, Gene Davis, Al Held, Ellsworth Kelly, Sol LeWitt, Maria Lewis, Robert Mangold, Kenneth Noland, and Leon Polk Smith. One featured work is Leon Polk Smith’s *George Washington Bridge #2* from 1979, an acrylic on canvas in the Rose Art Museum’s collection.
