The Lineup
The Harvard Film Archive presents Don Siegel’s 1958 crime film *The Lineup*, a San Francisco-set thriller about drug smugglers racing against an exceptionally tight deadline. Shot across a vividly changing postwar city, the film turns locations including the Embarcadero YMCA and the soon-to-be-demolished Sutro Baths into settings for elaborate killings, while its harbor views, bay maps, and highway construction evoke San Francisco’s uncertain transition into a new era.
The screening is preceded by Nathaniel Dorsky’s *Threnody*, a silent short composed from luminous images filmed around San Francisco. Its rhythmic editing creates a contemplative meditation on the beauty and poignancy of each image.
