Phil And Gabriela Kassel
Phil and Gabriela Kassel present “Across the Generational Divide,” an intimate father-daughter music show built around family stories, frank rapport, and songs they have loved across different stages of their lives. Gabriela, who lives in Montreal, and Phil regularly sing together when she visits Boston, but they had not performed a full show together for nearly two decades before deciding it was time to reunite onstage.
Their repertoire includes old and new favorites associated with Amy Winehouse, Joy of Cooking, Laura Nyro, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Leonard Cohen, and other artists. Between songs, they will discuss how their musical paths have intersected over the years. Longtime friend and collaborator Michael Larson serves as musical director and accompanies them on piano. Phil works as a local public-interest lawyer, while Gabriela is a somatic therapist and facilitator.
A review of the pair’s 2007 performance praised their close harmonies, Phil’s ability to move between a dark, sardonic vocal style and a soaring tenor, and Gabriela’s fluid, expressive voice and clear delivery of the lyrics.
