The Fringe

The Fringe brings more than 50 years of free-jazz improvisation to The Lilypad. Founded in 1971 by tenor saxophonist George Garzone, bassist Richard Appleman, and drummer Bob Gullotti, the group has become a longstanding presence in Boston-area jazz. The current lineup features Garzone, bassist John Lockwood, and drummer Francisco Mela, who joined after Gullotti’s death in 2020.

The performance emphasizes the band’s avant-garde approach and the musicians’ extensive work as session players and educators. The event is seated and is part of The Fringe’s ongoing Monday-night series.
