City Voices: Finding Your Voice Poetry Workshop Series

City Voices: Finding Your Voice is a welcoming poetry-writing workshop series led by award-winning poet and Emmanuel College professor Dr. Monique-Adelle Callahan. Participants will read poems, respond to guided prompts, and consider how poetry helps us pay closer attention, imagine differently, and understand our feelings and experiences. The series is designed for everyone from beginners to experienced poets and will end with a poetry reading at Emmanuel College.

Weekly sessions explore themes including home and the city, family and friendship, nature and the environment, love and relationships, and spirituality and faith. Dr. Callahan’s scholarly and creative work examines poetic ideas about freedom, metaphor, place, history, identity, and the experiences of pregnant enslaved women in the Americas.
