Swing Dance with Sergiy Georgiyev & Eddie Scheer’s Swinging All Stars
Swing dancing returns to Sanctuary’s Main Hall with instruction for beginners and experienced dancers alike, followed by an evening performance from Eddie Scheer’s Swinging All Stars. The recently converted church features a full stage, a large dance floor, and a bar.
The event begins with an instructional hour led by Sergiy Georgiyev, founder and director of Magenta Dance Place in Acton. The page describes Georgiyev as an experienced ballroom teacher who has taught in Europe and the United States, teaches at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and collaborates with the MIT Ballroom Club and Harvard Dance Sports team. His teaching emphasizes building confidence while reducing stress, with the goal of helping students enjoy the transformative and communal aspects of dance. The page specifically says that instruction in September will be led by Georgiyev.
From 7 to 9 p.m., Eddie Scheer’s Swinging All Stars will perform. Scheer is known at Sanctuary for his singing and drumming and has been part of New England’s swing scene for more than 25 years. His musical work includes the jump-blues band The Love Dogs, the 20-piece Compaq Big Band, and smaller ensembles. This newer group features Boston musicians, with a lighter, jazz-influenced swing style rooted in the blues.
