Mom’s 90th Birthday Cabaret starring The Anastasio Sisters!
It’s a miracle: Jenny is turning 90, and sisters Valerie and Veronica Anastasio are celebrating with a cabaret built around the nine decades of her life. The musical journey invites the audience to help determine which songs make the final program, creating a birthday tribute that combines family history, singing, acting, and cabaret.
Valerie Anastasio is the soprano performer. She appears in clubs, concert venues, and churches throughout Greater Boston. Her training includes an undergraduate music degree from Williams College, vocal-performance study at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, the Longy School of Music’s opera program, and additional private study. Her work has been shaped by a 25-year cabaret partnership with pianist, conductor, and arranger Tim Harbold, as well as collaborations with Benjamin Sears, Bradford Conner, and Sue Ellen Kuzma. She has been featured on six full-length recordings, including *Saving Daylight Time: New American Songs*.
Veronica Anastasio Wiseman holds a BFA in acting from Boston University and an MA in speech pathology from UMass Amherst. She is a Huntington Theatre trustee and president of the Sharon TV board, where she has created and hosted hundreds of programs. Her performance credits include Sleeping Weazel, Bad Habit, Bridge Rep, Central Square Theatre, Commonwealth Shakespeare, Company One, Fresh Ink, The Footlights Club, Gloucester Stage, THT Rep, and Sullivan Rep.
The musical accompaniment is provided by Steve Sussman, a Boston-area soloist, accompanist, chamber musician, and orchestral player. He earned a master’s degree in music performance from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. He directs the educational performance group Opera Presto, teaches at St. Mark’s School, and maintains a private teaching studio.
