Antje Duvekot & Dan Bern
Antje Duvekot and Dan Bern bring an evening of distinctive singer-songwriter music to Off Cabot. Duvekot is known for intimate, closely observed songwriting and a whispery, expressive vocal style. A veteran performer in the United States and Europe, she has appeared at festivals including Newport Folk Festival, Mountain Stage, Philadelphia Folk Festival, and Kerrville, and has headlined Scotland’s Celtic Connections Festival and Denmark’s Tønder Festival. Her honors include the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition, Kerrville’s Best New Folk Award, and a Boston Music Award for Outstanding Folk Act.
Duvekot’s newest creative chapter is represented by her fifth studio album, *New Wild West*, a collection shaped by themes of midlife, healing, resilience, and confronting trauma with greater strength. The album was developed with New England songwriter Mark Erelli, who handled most of the instrumentation and production, and includes guest appearances by Seth Glier, Robby Hecht, Winnie Horan, John Gorka, Richard Shindell, and Kenny White. Songs on the record include “Evolution,” “Girl on a Wire,” “Open Waters,” “Dylan Thomas (1996–1998),” “Anwesenheit,” “Lottery Ticket,” and “Traces.”
Dan Bern is a highly engaging live performer whose career has spanned more than three decades and includes over 30 albums, along with songwriting for film and television. His repertoire combines emotionally direct songs, vivid imagery, political and social observation, imaginative humor, and dry wit. Drawing on the American songwriting tradition while maintaining a distinctly individual voice, Bern is known for connecting directly with audiences and moving between deeply affecting and hilariously unexpected material.
