Carbon Leaf
Carbon Leaf brings its folk-infused indie rock to The Sinclair in support of its fifteenth studio album, *Time Is the Playground*. The Richmond, Virginia, band’s music combines nostalgic storytelling, heartfelt melodies, layered harmonies, and acoustic and electric instrumentation. The album reflects on time, love, personal growth, and the tension between urgency and contentment.
Formed in 1992 as a college cover band, Carbon Leaf has performed more than 3,500 live shows and first gained national attention with “The Boxer,” which received the 2002 American Music Awards New Music Award. The band later signed with Vanguard Records, released three charting albums, earned songwriting honors, and eventually returned to its independent roots. Its current lineup includes founding members Barry Privett, Terry Clark, and Carter Gravatt, along with longtime bassist Jon Markel and drummer Jesse Humphrey. The band recorded *Time Is the Playground* at its Two-Car Studio, with Clark engineering the sessions.
