Mexodus is a Helen Hayes Award-winning hip-hop musical about the lesser-known Underground Railroad route that led south across the Rio Grande into Mexico. The story follows a freedom seeker and an unlikely ally whose relationship crosses borders, using live-looped music to uncover a hidden chapter of American history. The production presents its historical subject with both urgency and joy, framing protest through music, movement, and celebration.

The work was created by Brian Quijada and Nygel D. Robinson, with choreography by Tony Thomas and direction by David Mendizábal. The New York Times named it a Critic’s Pick, praising its musicality and the exhilaration of its live performance.
