Jenna Gribbon: Entwined
Jenna Gribbon: Entwined is the first major solo museum exhibition devoted to the paintings of Jenna Gribbon, bringing together more than forty works created from 2001 to the present, including ambitious new canvases made specifically for the exhibition. On view in the Rose Art Museum’s Lois Foster Wing, the exhibition traces Gribbon’s development as a figurative painter through luminous color, inventive compositions, and emotionally charged scenes.
Known for intimate portraits of family, friends, and especially her wife, musician Mackenzie Scott, who performs as TORRES, Gribbon explores the shifting relationships among artist, subject, viewer, observation, and performance. Organized chronologically and thematically, the exhibition considers love, desire, memory, perception, identity, reciprocity, care, and radical empathy. It presents intimacy not merely as a subject but as the foundation of Gribbon’s practice, examining how relationships shape both the people depicted and the act of painting itself.
