Lizard Lounge Poetry Jam-Michaelis

The Lizard Lounge Poetry Jam features Michaelis, a multimedia spoken-word artist from the DMV who now lives in Providence, Rhode Island. Their work combines rhyme, rhythm, and wordplay to explore stories of Blackness and queerness, informed by childhood connections to the Deep South.

Michaelis is the 2025 Providence Grand Slam Champion and a member of both the 2025 and 2026 ProvSlam teams. They also serve as Web Editor for the African Poetry Book Fund, and their debut poetry chapbook is forthcoming from Button Poetry.
